PREPARATION
All
tools, equipment and COLOURTOP materials required for
the project should be available on site prior to pouring of
the concrete.
If the design
of the project includes a variety of shapes, colours and surface
finishes, then the appropriate formwork tools and templates
should be available.
Immediately
after pouring of the concrete it is recommended that the appropriate
number of COLOURTOP bags are evenly distributed on the
perimiter of the project, i.e. 5kgs of COLOURTOP will
cover 1 m2 therefore 1 bag every 5 m2.
APPLICATION
METHOD
Once
the concrete has been float finished and the surface bleed water
has evaporated, shake apply the COLOURTOP by hand using
the broadcast method to the entire area at a rate of 2.5kgs
per m2.
Float finish
the COLOURTOP into the surface of the concrete.
Once the
first application of COLOURTOP has been float finished,
apply the second application of COLOURTOP as per the
first application.
Float finish
the second application of COLOURTOP into the surface
of the concrete.
Immediately
steel trowel the COLOURTOP into the concrete in preparation
for the final finishing techniques.
FINAL
FINISHING OPTIONS
a)
Brushed b) Sponged c) Trowelled d) Paper
Ridged
e) Tamped f) Rollered g) Light Textured
h) Custom Designed
For finishes
(a) through to (f) the finishing techniques are
similar.
Once the
surface has set sufficiently (the timing of which will depend
on the ambient temperature and weather conditions) the specified
finish can be achieved by use of the appropriate PICS
finishing tools.
It is recommended
to discuss the specific techniques with the PICS Technical
Department to ensure clarity of understanding prior to commencing.
A) Brushed
Finish - A brush finish is achieved by slowly dragging a
PICS concrete brush-finishing broom (HT662) towards the
edge of the coloured slab. It is important not to overlap each
of the brushed slabs as this will result in a variation of the
depth of brush marks.
B) Sponged Finish - A sponged finish is achieved by gently
rubbing a sponge in a circular motion over the surface of the
coloured slab. As the surface hardens or dries, it will be necessary
to increase the pressure applied.
C) Trowelled Finish - A trowelled finish is achieved
by a final trowelling of the surface using a PICS blue steel
pool trowel, (HT750).
D) Paper Ridged - A paper ridged finish is achieved by
placing a layer of corrugated cardboard paper as soon as possible
over the surface of the slab and gently applying pressure by
means of a PICS Roller Bug (HT952). Immediately remove the corrugated
cardboard paper, taking precautions not to drag over the surface
of the slab.
E) Tamped Finish - A Tamped finish is achieved by tamping
the surface of the coloured slab. Care should be taken to ensure
the ridges created by tamping are not too pronounced.
F) Rollered (stippled) Finish - A Rollered finish is
achieved by rolling a texturing roller over the surface of the
coloured slab to create a stippled effect. It is important to
ensure that over lapping does not occur to avoid uneven depths
of texture of the surface.
G)
For finish G, Light textured and (H) Custom Designed,
please consult PICS technical department to discuss specific
techniques required.
CURING
Immediately
after completing the specified finishing technique spray apply
PICS cure and seal (see cure and seal application instructions)
by sprayer at a rate of 6 square metres per litre.
SEALING
After
28 days or just prior to hand over of the project apply 2 coats
of PICS Low Solids Sealer CM42 at a rate of 3 - 4 m2 per litre.
INCREASED
SLIP RESISTANE
In
areas where increased slip resistance is required then prior
to application of Low Solids Sealer CM42 please consult the
PICS Anti Slip Agent (Rhino Grip) ASA Installation Instructions.
