Decorative Concrete in the UK
This post is to introduce myself – John Grant, and the Decorative Concrete paving market in the UK. As 2014 drew to a close, I have been lucky to work with some of the best installers, designers and product suppliers in the market. Working for PICS Ltd for 20 years, based at Newbury in Berkshire, with depots in Sheffield, Manchester and Ireland, I have built a network of contacts and quality installers of a range of our Picspave Decorative Pattern Imprinted Concrete paving and Wallcrete Decorative Render systems.
The market in the UK for pattern imprinted concrete has grown dramatically over the last two decades, with a network of experienced installers covering virtually the whole of the UK, and the design and colour options far exceeding alternatives. As the Picspave system utilises the inherent strength of a minimum depth of 100mm of ready mixed concrete, adding the durability and maintenance benefits of colour surface hardeners and UV stable pigments, it provides the long term performance and low maintenance that customers choose the world over.
Used in all domestic driveway and patio applications, Picspave has become a popular choice for the commercial market, particularly in the leisure industry at theme parks and high pedestrian use projects, to being the preferred specification for drive thru lanes at all leading fast food restaurants. Architects and specifiers are starting to appreciate the flexibility and scope of pattern imprinted concrete, with a variety of projects proving the long term performance on installations across a wide range of applications.
Wallcrete is a simple to use lightweight render system, which gives plasterers, renderers and builders an option for being more creative with coloured render, and replicating natural stone, brick and hand carved finishes. Easy to apply to concrete block work, or as a refurbishment render to an old brick or stone wall, Wallcrete has been used from theme parks to garage walls and all sorts of external and internal applications. I have undertaken several Wallcrete installations as a DIY enthusiast, with no previous rendering experience, and can happily report on the simple easy to use nature of the system.
